Hidden Oregon - Yoder General Store
Sunday, April 09, 2006
The Yoder General Store is one of the last remnants of Yoderville, since renamed Yoder, once a bustling agricultural hub near Woodburn settled by the Yoder family in the mid-1800s.
Jonathan Yoder built the store in 1915 in time to service the now-defunct Willamette Valley Southern Railway from Portland to Mt. Angel.
Inside, it's the real thing: an old-fashioned general store where you can find almost anything -- including a thoroughly modern fresh brewed latte.
How about a new shovel or rubber boots? Lantern wicks? Videos, canned soup, dog food, mosquito repellant, fertilizer, ice cream? Grab a snack and a soda or coffee and sit on the porch bench. Go ahead and visit with the locals. Sitting a spell and chatting is a fine thing to do on a warm spring afternoon.
Getting there: The Yoder General Store is on the Canby-Marquam Highway, Oregon 214. It's less than a mile south of Oregon 211, which runs between Woodburn and Molalla. Oregon 211 intersects Interstate 5 at Woodburn, Exit 271.
